The most technologically efficient machine
that man has ever invented is the book. -
Northrop Frye
Northrup Frye, Canadian literary theorist and critic, never saw an eBook and out of context it is difficult to say what aspect of an old fashioned, tree-based book he found technologically efficient. With the internet and the eBook, however, this efficiency has been lifted to an entirely different plane.
The problem of content remains, however. Just as the availability of hundreds of high-definition cable TV channels doesn't guarantee the availability of quality programming, so the easy availability of hundreds of thousands of eBook titles doesn't mean that we're receiving the titles we need nor that care has been taken to ensure that the reading experience we receive is of the highest level.
DotLit Press was founded with the thought that the eBook reading experience need not be cold and mechanical. People who know and love books - and who have been printers with type, ink and paper - still have something to contribute. Over the next few months we hope to have a better eBook experience ready for you.
